This tournament for the season preparation is one of the most important preparation events on the internati onal Hockey stage. The tournament takes place this year for the first time in the St. Jakobs-Arena in Basel.
For the hockey top teams it is very important to get in summer the last grinding for the beginning master round. Every year the organizers are in the very enviable position to select the participants from many European top teams.
The 2011 Basel Summer Ice Hockey is an ice hockey tournament that will be held in Basel, Switzerland between 17 and 21 August 2011. All matches will be played at host EHC Basel's home St. Jakob Arena. Six teams, split into two groups of three, will take part.
The Basel Summer Ice Hockey is an ice hockey tournament held in Basel, Switzerland every August before the start of many domestic European ice hockey seasons. All matches are played at the home of the EHC Basel ice hockey club, that being St. Jakob Arena.
This tournament has been contested for since its inception in 2009.
St. Jakob Arena is an arena in Basel, Switzerland. It is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home arena of EHC Basel. St. Jakob Arena opened in 2002 and holds 6,330 people.
While there are 68 total members of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), 162 of 177 medals at the IIHF World Championships have been taken by seven nations: Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States.[2][3] Of the 64 medals awarded in men's competition at the Olympic level from 1920 on, only six did not go to the one of those countries. All 12 Olympic and 36 IIHF World Women's Championships medals have gone to one of those seven countries, and every gold medal in both competitions has been won by either Canada or the United States
